CROP NEWS

As an added tool to help you get the best production results for your crops, each month during the peak growing season, our Crop Solutions that Work newsletter will be published containing some valuable information that will help you answer questions or concerns on a variety of production problems. Take a few moments to read the articles in each newsletter. We hope you will find the Crop Solutions That Work series of newsletters useful.

The CropPest Ontario is the OMAFRA Field Crop Production and IPM Newsletter. Although the primary authors are the OMAFRA Field Crop Specialists (Agriculture Development Branch), other contributors include research scientists at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the University of Guelph, as well as some U.S. based extension personnel. The intention of the Crop Pest Ontario Newsletter is to provide agribusiness, producers, extension and others with practical research based information to assist with developing field crop production and pest management problems in the province. Since timeliness is important, the Crop Pest Ontario Newsletter is published weekly in May, June and July and bi-weekly for the remainder of the growing season.

This blog is intended to give everyone a “heads-up” on current agricultural pest issues taking place in the field crops of Ontario (and sometimes beyond).  It will be updated as frequently as possible by Tracey Baute, based on reports and observations made by our Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs field crop team and others.  If you spot a pest issue in the field or have a comment to add about the blog, feel free to add it in the comments section.

Tracey is the Field Crop Entomologist-Program Lead with OMAFRA.  She obtained her M.Sc in Entomology from the University of Guelph.  Working for the Ministry since 2000, her responsbilities include research validation and delivery of insect pest management strategies for field crops in Ontario.

Crop Talk discusses field crop (corn, soybean, cereals, forages, edible beans, canola, etc) production issues in Ontario. It is prepared by the OMAFRA Field Crop Specialists. Crop Talk is published 5 times per year (January, March, June, September, November), and is distributed to members of the Ontario Soil & Crop Improvement Association.

C&M Seeds Wheat School is a series of educational videos about growing wheat in Ontario and the rest of Canada. Focusing on everything on from "why grow wheat" to "information on frost seeding", this series will encourage new ideas and increased management strategies.
